Bubble Wrap Hell

I have found out that one of my kimono paintings has been ruined in transit between galleries in the US. For some reason the (for now anonymous) gallery decided to pack two unframed paintings face to face with only one layer of bubble wrap between them - with - wait for it.... The bubble side facing inward onto the surface of one painting. Then sent it fed ex.
So no surprise then that when they were unwrapped the plastic bubbles stripped off the varnish and left a dot pattern over the whole thing. *sob*.
The gallery is now trying to repair it but I don't expect it will be fixable. Any ideas of what to do?
Will keep you posted.

I have just realised I have not posted any new work on my blog for eons. So will try and stay more up to date in future.

Portrait detail

All these details are of a more art nouveau inspired painting. The pose and the model made me think of Mucha. I will hopefully have this finished by the end of the week.

Detail of the hands.

Detail of new painting.

This one will be going into the 'Enchanted World' exhibition at the RedRag Gallery in Bath in November.

Detail of a new portrait

This is the first portait (of many I imagine!) of the lovely Harriet. I am using quite a different palette with this as she has very different skin tone than my past models. It is quite an exciting challenge.
I thought I'd better start posting photos of my recent work as it had been a while since I blogged. I blame the fact I had to change my browser before I could post properly.
I am using my iPhone to send photos of work from the studio until I sort out my pc so apologies for the quality of the images.

A charcoal study of Harriet

This is a small study of my newest model Harriet. I managed to get 2 drawings done today in the rush to get enough work to hang on the walls for my open studio weekend starting tomorrow.
I never seem to be prepared enough. But at least the studio is tidy for once!
I will post photos of our preview party this weekend.
Looking forward to it!

My new Video

I have been working with a long time friend and film maker extraordinaire, Dave Tarvit, over the last few weeks getting an artists video put together.

There is a bit of chat, a bit of me working in the studio and a bit with my model on the photographic studio.

All in all, it was rather cathartic experience. Being made to think and talk about what inspires me and drives me in my artwork has made my mind much clearer about who I am as an artist and where I am heading in my future projects.

Stephanie Rew - Artist Video

I thoroughly recommend any other artist to do a video for this reason alone.

I might do another film showing the process of painting a bit more.

My Solo Show Private view tonight!

Well it all happens tonight. I have been bad at blogging this past few weeks as I have been flat out painting to get things finished for my Solo Show. This will be the first solo I have done in about 6 years. Having a family has taken priority over my studio time but as the kids are now getting older, Cammy is a very independent 6 year old and Grace is 3 this Sunday!!  - iam have been able to produce more work.

So -  I have 32 works up on show at Alpha Art in Edinburgh. I am very happy with the paintings but am still a bit stressed about how it will go tonight.

Alpha Art - Stephanie Rew Solo Exhibition

I have been wrapping pass-the-parcel presents for Gracie's birthday party to keep my nerves at bay but the poor kids will be playing for hours as I think I have put too many layers on!! I'm a bit distracted......

Will post again to let you know how it goes.
Cheers

Some new landscapes...

Here are some new landscapes I have forgot to post. They are of Cluanie Ridge in the Scottish Highlands and Allt Na Luibe and StrathMor Glen in Skye.

it's been a while.....

Hi!
I have been neglecting my blog a bit of late. Sorry! After a lovely wee family trip to Lanzarote for New Year, I came back to the realisation that I have a Solo show to prepare for in less than 2 months. So I have been very busy painting and not so busy typing.

As well as producing work for the Solo I had a commitment to paint a large scale kimono for the Red Rag Gallery in Bath. It is now finished and waiting for a varnish and a frame. I am still not sure how to frame such a big one.

It was quite a task to paint such a  heavily patterned kimono like this but I really enjoyed it. The brush work is much looser than my previous paintings - it may be something I will explore in the future.
